Our Brand of Midwifery
> All routine visits are approximately 1 hour.
> The birth takes place in your home with and/or without a portable birthing tub.
> We allow women to labor and birth in the water, or on land, and in whichever position feels best for them at the time.
> We encourage of movement, water, and nourishment in labor.
> Infant/mother and family bonding immediately after birth. Your baby will be allowed to stay with you the entire time except in the event of an emergency. Even the newborn exam will be done with you present, 1-2 hours after the birth.
> Breastfeeding support! We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for breastfeeding support in the first few weeks postpartum.
> Care up to 6-12 weeks postpartum.
> Community resource guide and help seeking those services.
> Well woman gynecology care for all ages of women, as well as fertility counseling for couples trying to conceive.
Our Philosophies
> We believe birth is a normal process. Most of the time it will progress on it’s own, in a safe way, with minimal intervention.
> We encourage well pregnancy and the growth of healthy newborns through preventative care by early information, nutrition, and developing safe, open, and honest provider-client relationships.
> We give families the information necessary to make all decisions about pregnancy, infant, and postpartum maternal care. This includes state recommendations and requirements, alternatives, risk and benefits of each choice, and finally, space to make the choice that is best for each family and support of that individual decision.
> We closely monitor women’s health, and often see changes and can improve situations before they become problematic.
> We do longer appointments with clients, spending time with them in labor, and getting to know what is normal for them rather than what is “normal” given a wide range of values that include the entire population. This allows us to be alerted to potential problems earlier. Often we then have time and space to gently make adjustments to keep mama and baby healthy and at home.
