Joey Torgrimson, CPM, DEM, LMT
I began my career in natural health care in the late 1990’s at Oregon School of Massage. In 2008 I became a homebirth midwife in addition to my massage practice, through a combination of formal study at Birthingway College and apprenticeship study at a local waterbirth center. The two modalities complemented each other well, and I maintained a dual practice until 2010 when I retired from massage therapy to further pursue my midwifery career.
As a midwife, I specialize in waterbirth and vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC). I also have a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies: Cultural Perspectives on Childbearing Families, from Oregon State University. I am now pursuing a Master's Degree in Public Health.
As a health care provider, I believe in meeting people where they are, and supporting them in creating the picture of health they chose for themselves based on their own values, belief systems, and bodies. I believe in informed decision making for patients and clients. I also believe in woman centered midwifery care, rather than provider centered care.
I am an Oregon native and although I have traveled to many countries, I have lived here permanently my entire life. I have a 9 year old daughter named Emma. We enjoy living in Portland, travel, the outdoors, music, dancing, and surfing (in a very thick wetsuit).
